Fedcap Grows Global Education Practice Through Acquisition of UK-Based The New School

New York, NY and London, UK—Fedcap today announced the acquisition of The New School (UK), an innovative school based in London. This strategic expansion strengthens Fedcap’s international education portfolio and reinforces its commitment to advancing inventive, student-centered learning models that support long-term economic mobility and wellbeing.
The New School is an inclusive independent school serving children and young people from early through primary and secondary education, supporting students from the early developmental stages through the completion of the UK’s General Certificate of Secondary Educations or equivalent qualifications. Grounded in the U.K.’s National Curriculum but delivered through an adaptive, student-centered model, the school balances academic instruction with self-directed and collaborative learning.
The New School model places a strong emphasis on the student voice. Students actively participate in decision-making, helping to shape aspects of school life while developing the confidence, critical thinking skills, and interpersonal capabilities needed to thrive in wider society. Teaching practices also prioritize critical literacy, encouraging students to explore multiple perspectives, form their own views, and articulate them clearly.
“This acquisition reflects our commitment to building seamless, student-centered education pathways that connect innovative models and expand opportunity,” said Christine McMahon, President and CEO of Fedcap. “The New School’s individualized approach aligns strongly with our broader education portfolio, including programs like Big Picture Learning UK, allowing us to link proven models, scale what works, and create clearer pathways for student success, confidence, and long-term economic mobility.”
The New School, founded by Lucy Stephens, has gained recognition for its design to help young people develop agency, wellbeing, and a strong sense of belonging. As part of Fedcap, the school will continue operating under its existing mission while benefiting from enhanced operational infrastructure, international collaboration opportunities, and long-term strategic support.
“Founded on the belief that education must evolve to meet the needs of all learners, The New School empowers young people with the self-knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to shape their futures and contribute positively to society,” said Lucy Stephens, Founder of The New School. “Joining Fedcap allows us to build on that vision, strengthen our foundation, and reach more young people with an approach that helps them find their voice, understand their purpose, and believe in their ability to shape their future.”
The New School’s model has led to strong outcomes for students, including improved engagement in learning, increased confidence and self-worth, and meaningful academic progression toward GCSE attainment and post-secondary pathways. By focusing on social and emotional development alongside academic achievement, the school helps young people build resilience, strengthen relationships, and develop the skills needed for continued education, employment, and active participation in their communities.
“Our inclusive model places social and emotional development alongside academic learning, creating the conditions for students to succeed—especially those who may not thrive in traditional settings,” said Jason Tomlinson, Chair. “Through this partnership, we have the opportunity to strengthen and scale what works, extending our impact and reaching more young people with an approach designed to help them grow, achieve, and succeed.”
